This original painting is a bonfire at ‘An Teampall Geall’ on the longest day of the year. This was an epic moment captured of Toose Mac Gearailt on his land near the bright temple or church, ‘An Teampall Geall’. He has the bonfire loaded up with pallets and bracken for the whole night and local musicians play to session, sing and recite poetry. The sky fills with smoke. This ritual occurs on ‘Oíche Shín Seáin’ on the longest day of the year, on the 23rd of June in West Kerry.
This painting has a curiosity element. See if you can spot the double exposure on the left of the night sky over the rooftops in Ballyferriter village. I love playing with these ideas.
Acrylic and plaster on a wooden panel. Primed on the back includes hanging apparatus.
