City Eclipsed

A city dreamscape inspired by bonfire night in Cork City. Bonna Night takes place on the 23rd of June in Cork City. Now although the fires are primarily illegal a few remain. I was fascinated by this night as a child growing up in the city. In this image, a young man loads up the ‘Bonna’ amongst smoke and debris collected from all the neighbours. I built up a lot of texture and tone in this with crushed pigments and plasters. I added a double eclipse to create an apocalyptic or otherworldly vibe. Painted with gouache, plaster, and acrylic on a wooden panel and ready to hang on your wall.
